We live in a world that has a view of competition derived from the competitive nature that is within us all. Many times a desire to win at all cost, and humiliating an opponent, come from distorted views brought forth through our own sin nature. Add the nudging of Satan and his demons, any times highly competitive events become ugly by the play and taunting of players and spectators alike. Unfortunately these very same values not only influence us as we participate in sporting events, but also in our every day lives as we all experience some form of competitiveness with family, friends, work, and church.   Softball is a ministry of New Covenant Church. We will focus on God’s desires towards personal and team competition.

All who desire to participate will receive an awesome opportunity to Go, Grow, and Give. Our players will experience how to unite in commitment, and accountability to achieve the goals and purpose that God has placed before us.

Our team will strive to not be concerned about winning games, compiling individual stats, or making the play-offs. The coaches will not argue with the umpire, holler when errors are made, or just play the best most talented players. This ministry’s purpose would be to emphasize to every player to give God their very best by putting Him first! Playing softball is an excellent example for the commitment, unity, and teamwork that God calls us to have. These attributes will prepare us as we are called to serve in any church ministry. The coaching staff will encourage the players towards their preparation, and exercise of our mind, body and spirit. Our coaches will hold the players accountable to the application, and witnessing of biblical values and principles taught by His word through the teaching ministries of NewCovenant Community Church. The focus of the coaching staff will encourage the players to:

Prepare

  • Our minds by the daily reading and study of His word (Ps. 119:11)
  • Our bodies through proper exercise, diet, and living a Holy life. (1 Co.6:19)
  • Our spirit by prayerfully committing ourselves to Him. Expecting God to bless and lead the team and ourselves towards any service for Him. (Mt. 6:33)

Exercise (Put into action)

The mind of Christ through constantly encouraging teammates and members of the other team. (Heb. 3:13)

Intentionally use our example to evangelize by our actions and words brought forth from our play of the game. (Jn. 13:34)

The body of Christ by individually challenging ourselves to do our best for the team by being;

Passionate towards the unity of the body in times of victory or defeat, allowing Him to check prideful emotions so that we will not damage our witness towards others (Ro. 15:5-6)

Accountable to the team by our example of commitment, preparation, attendance, punctuality, and support of the team (1 Co. 4:2)

The Spirit of Christ by praising Him during times of success, and blessings as well as in times of stress, and disappointments, and to seek His forgiveness in times of anger or in a spirit of discord. We will rely on Him to replace our prideful spirit with His joyous spirit. (Ph 2:3-)

Working together as a team towards achieving these goals, supports the purpose as to why the church has a softball team. Softball then is validated by the mission statement of the church to Go, Grow, and Give by preparing its players to a greater service for the Lord. It is the hope and prayer of the coaching staff that this ministry will supply workers for the harvest beyond their interest of playing softball. Should you decide that you would like to participate in this exciting ministry, you will be encouraged by coaching staff and teammates to become a valuable worker in other ministries of the church.

We will learn to trust, and lean upon Him beyond our own understanding. We’ll strive together to exemplify His values to evangelize, and witness, as a team in unity and Christian love. What an excellent opportunity this is for us all to example our transformed lives to our families, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances that the Lord places before us. May softball help lead us to a higher and deeper relationship towards Him.
